When it comes to pork cutlets, most chefs would hide slabs of pork under those layers of cheap batter. This totally spoils the taste, but in Tonkichi, they don't. Their batter enhances the taste, it's light and crispy and you won't feel weary of eating it.
This is my second time visiting Tonkichi, the first was at Suntec, and both were treated by Aunt Laoshu. I feel so blessed.^^
So back to topic:
I ordered the Hire Tonkatsu with oysters set, as I wanted to try something new, the last I had was Premium Pork Loin set, if I could remembered it correctly. In both cases, the pork cutlet was damn tender and juicy, with just the right amount of oil content. There's nothing special about the oysters, or is it I can' tell. I'm not an oyster-lover, but one thing that I could tell - the oysters they use are huge and juicy, they literally explode in your mouth. My cousins ordered different dishes each, I didn't get to try all, but I had a prawn fritter. As expected, it's so damn good.
In Tonkichi, you get free flow of shredded-lettuce "to wash down any oleaginous feelings from an overkill of deep fried foods." And the salad topping was great. Their sauces were top-grade, unlike some other restaurants which tried to emulate authentic Japanese sauces.
This is a must-go for all Japanese food lovers, not to mention the prices are quite reasonable too. I will definitely visit Tonkichi again, maybe for the desserts.^^
